The Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Story
Built on Prayer, Faith, and Family

In the mid-1990s, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church stood at a crossroads: Our little sanctuary had served us faithfully for decades, but Sunday mornings were overflowing — in the best way possible. God was growing our family, and it was time to make room. In 1995, a group of faithful men and women came together to dream, pray, and plan. They believed that God wasn’t calling us to simply expand our old building, but to build something new — a sanctuary that could hold 800 people and generations of worship yet to come.
The church family caught the vision immediately. On March 17, 1996, the vote to build passed unanimously. By February 1998, our “Kickoff Sunday” launched with extraordinary faith — and in just eight days, every bond needed to fund construction was sold. Eighty-three families, along with friends from beyond our walls, invested not just money but hope in what God was doing here.

On a drizzly March morning that same year, 291 people gathered with shovels and hearts full of joy to “turn sod for God.” As construction began, so did something deeper — a season of prayer, unity, and service. Members drove miles to select stained glass, lighting, and pews. Others spent evenings cleaning, sanding, and laying tile with their own hands. Even our children left their mark — writing their names and Bible verses on small stones placed beneath the front steps, “stones of prayer” that still rest beneath every foot that enters
By September 1999, the long-awaited day arrived. On the final Sunday in our old sanctuary, the congregation sang together as each person carried a hymnal across the grounds into our new home. It was a simple, holy moment — one filled with singing, tears, and even a new profession of faith.

A few weeks later, on October 3, 1999, we celebrated “Dedication Sunday and Homecoming.” A time capsule was sealed in the wall — a testament to our faith and our future — engraved with the words:
“Dedicated to the Glory of God. My house shall be called the house of prayer.” (Matthew 21:13)
Today, we still stand on that same foundation — one built on prayer, faith, and the love of a church family determined to honor God in every generation.
